Currently, swing dance enthusiasts from all over the world network and meet each other Swing Dance Festivals, like all year's Rock That Swing Festival at the Deutsches Theater.
2000 swing dancers from all over the world come together every year at the beginning of March in Munich to take part in the 5-day festival Rock That Swing Festival to experience the workshops with their 70 top dance instructors and countless parties.
The Rock That Swing Festival is organized by the former, multiple Boogie Woogie World champions Marcus Koch and Bärbl Kaufer from Munich, who with their knowledge, their energy, Devotion and lifelong passion for the swing dances have contributed enormously to the existence of the Worldwide Swing Dance Community. Over the years, they have consistently championed the growth of the community and made many international talents out of their events.
The film portrays Marcus and Bärbl as the main protagonists who let us take part in their nearly 30-year history as a dance couple and guide us through the different dance styles such as Solo Charleston, Lindy Hop, Balboa, Shag, Boogie Woogie and Blues. We will get to know the most charismatic dance couples of these dance styles and accompany some of them to international swing dance festivals where they meet their friends and former dance partners again.
The film also works with flashbacks and does not rely only on original recordings from the 40s with the legend Frankie Manning the "forefather" of Lindy Hop, Norma Miller, Jean Veloz and other icons of swing dances, but also shows footage filmed by Marcus himself from older interviews with other swing dance legends.
Without swing music, no swing dance, so the film also portrays some of the most important swing bands from the 30-50s and shows new swing bands that revive the old music and with their charismatic and swinging style more and more swing dance enthusiasts magnetically pull on the parquet.
